NON-CANONICAL BASE PAIR DATABASE : Individual Record Page 431

Authors:Anderson AC, O'Neil RH, Filman DJ, Frederick CA
Citation:Crystal structure of a brominated RNA helix with four mismatched base pairs: An investigation into RNA conformational variability. Biochemistry 38(39):12577-85 September 28, 1999  [PDB link]
Base Pair Type:UC 4-carbonyl-amino
Base Pair Category:Normal Purine-Purine and Pyrimidine-Pyrimidine Base Pairs; Trans Watson-Crick/Watson-Crick
Sequence Context:5'  3'
U-G,Wobble
U-C
C-U,4-carbonyl-amino (1 bond)
3'  5'
Structure:A brominated 15-nucleotide RNA helix
Pucker Info:*
Melting Point:*
Free Energy:*
Chemical Shift:*
Glycosidic Conf:*
Extra Info:C-U mismatched base pairs are the least thermodynamically stable of the mismatched pairs in the brominated helix, due to poor stacking interactions together with the presence of only a single hydrogen bond between the nucleotides. The C-U mismatched base pairs distort the A-form helix only slightly.
Figure:UC 4-carbonyl-amino
